I began in the performance art world of entertainment. This form of art catered to the audience and their likings. After being introduced to performance art in a gallery setting by Marina Abramovic, I began my research into a different form of art. I began with drawing and painting, then sculpting by building on found objects. Now I find a certain material and mold it into the desired object. In first year I was introduced to spot welding which started my curiosity and excitement into metalwork. I’ve recently decided to learn as much as possible about metal and the techniques used for molding, melting and altering this material. I find when deciding on the material; in this case metal. It allows me the opportunity to understand how it works, how to temper it. Once the basics are learned one is able to create whatever they want. Working with metal allows me to learn the techniques and understand metal in a way that will benefit me in the future. Though my work is sometimes based on what material I wish to work with, most if not all of the time my work deals with the idea of, “creating from what you know”. I believe when one works in what you know you're more passionate and motivated to continue to work and delve deep with the idea. I look to those around me for inspiration. I get my own second hand idea of what others are dealing with, and what they are going through. By doing this I feel like I create from a public acknowledgement of emotions. Truly I create ideas that centre on the human condition. Everyone can understand human pain and happiness so I draw on my own experiences and also those around me, like my family.
